Most golfers are accustomed to a par 3, 4, or 5 golf hole. These are the standard that you can find at any golf course. However, many players ask if there are other options for golf holes, like a par 6 or par 7. Here is everything you need to know about a par 6 golf hole, where it exists, and how to play them.

Are there par 6 golf holes?

Several golf courses around the world will have par 6 golf holes. These golf holes are incredibly long and require an additional shot to make it to the green. This is what creates a par 6 and increases the difficulty of the hole.

How to play a par 6?

A par 6 golf hole is played like a par 5, except that it will probably take you an additional shot to get the ball on the green. For long hitters, a par 6 is a hole that you can hope to make a birdie or better on. The par 6 should take you four shots to get to the green and then two putts.

Will a course with a par 6 still have a par of 72?

It’s important to remember that a par 72 golf course is not always standard. Some golf courses have a par of 70 or 73, and that is completely legal and acceptable. A course with a par 6 may have a par of 73.

Conclusion

When someone mentions par 6 golf hole I get goosebumps. It can be very tricky, but if you're accurate enough with your longer clubs it can turn into a pretty easy birdie hole.  Think about it - 700 yards to play and you hit your driver 250 yards with roll + 2 shots 200 yards and you're left with 50 yards for your 4th shot πŸ˜‰ Not to mention if you hit your ball further, you can be on the green with your 3rd or even 2nd shot and putt for a double eagle! Did you know that there are also some par 7 holes??? Check it out in this article: Is there a par 7 golf hole?
